Book Update | Daddy do My Hair?
There has been very little movement with my YA novel, but before you tut at me, know that I have a good excuse. A couple of months back, I saw a beautiful illustration by @illustration316 which depicted a young black girl getting her done by her father. I was so inspired by the picture, it made me itch to write…badly. I’ve learnt the hard way that when inspiration strikes, go with it, even if it doesn’t take the form you thought it would. Following that spark led me to write the first three books in a children’s picture book series I’m calling, ‘Daddy do my Hair?’
The books explore and celebrate the relationship between a father and child through the simple act of doing hair. It’s aimed at children aged 0-5 and uses rhyme. I wrote all three books in a two day period and at times it felt like the book was writing itself. I decided to send them to a few agents and publishers to see if any showed interest. At the back of my mind however was the knowledge that I might have to self-publish them. Fast forward 4 months and I am currently in the process of self-publishing my first book. This is a very scary time for me folks, as this road is by no means an easy one to travel. However, I believe strongly in these books and the feedback I’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive. I’ve also seen God’s hand in their creation and fully believe this is part of His plan. I will of course keep you guys updated on my progress so watch this space! In the mean time, check out some sneak peeks of the book.
